With the WLX-2004 Universal Wi-Fi Adapter you can connect your Smart TV, Blu-Ray player, game console or media player to the internet wirelessly. Since many Smart TVs do not have a built-in wireless adapter, this is the ideal solution to upgrade your Smart TV and connect it to your wireless home network. Easily avoid messy wiring and cables. The Wi-Fi adapter offers superior wireless performance, ideal for streaming heavy HD movies.
The Wi-Fi adapter is suitable for any device with a network port and is therefore compatible with all brands and models. The device is fully Plug-and-Play (PnP), so no installation or configuration is required. Simply connect the Wi-Fi adapter to the free network port of your device and to the free USB port for power. You do not need a power outlet, so you can place the Wi-Fi adapter wherever you want. Use the included velcro sticker to mount the adapter on the back of your Smart TV or other device, so that both the device and the wiring are invisible. For a secure wireless connection, press the OPS button (One Push Set-up) on the Wi-Fi adapter to connect to the wireless network of your router.
Installation
The installation procedure is explained with drawings on a multilingual (also Dutch) installation folder.
If you have a router that supports OPS or WPS, then the installation is very simple: press the button on the side of the adapter and then on your router and both will automatically find each other. A successful installation is indicated by the three small LEDs on the front of the box (status indication for power, wireless network and fixed network).
You can also perform the wireless network configuration manually via the built-in web page of the XL-V1001. You then connect the adapter to a computer that is not connected to a network and navigate in your browser to the address http://192.168.0.234. You log in with the username admin and the password admin. Then click on “wizard” and follow the instructions. If necessary, you can also consult the more extensive manual that is supplied on a CD.
Performance
We tested the performance with Jperf 2.0. 2, running on a Synology NAS server, between a Dell Vostro Core i5 laptop and an AVM FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7390 router. We measured the average wireless throughput using ten parallel network streams. We recorded an average throughput of 63.7 Mbit/s. For comparison: the built-in Intel Wi-Fi chip of the Dell laptop only achieved 38.4 Mbit/s in exactly the same test setup.
Connected to a Samsung TV, we can play 1080p Full HD mkv videos with surround sound smoothly and without any interruptions. We can also play ripped regular DVDs via the network. Ripped Blu-rays are too much. We also managed to use the internet section of the TV without any problems and, for example, watch YouTube videos in the highest quality without any interruptions.
Conclusion
This universal Wi-Fi adapter is a cheap way to use a TV, media player or other network device with only a fixed network connection wirelessly. Installation is simple and the performance is sufficient for streaming 1080p Full HD video.
