IK Classification

Levels of impact resistance IK

The IK rating for impact resistance is defined in the European standard EN 62262 and its international counterpart – the standard IEC 62262:2002. It can be used to describe the degree of protection against impact (vandal resistance) of surveillance cameras and other devices. With the IK classification, the degree of protection of enclosures of electrical equipment against mechanical influences from outside can be determined.

The impact resistance designation IKxy consists of the letters IK and a level indication on an 11-step scale ("00" to "10"). The higher the numerical value of the parameter IK, the greater the impact resistance. For example, thanks to the IK designation, we can determine the impact resistance of a particular camera and select the most suitable camera for our needs. A high IK value can protect us against the possible need to replace cameras due to destruction by, for example, vandals. To find out if the camera you want to buy is impact resistant, look at the IK rating assigned to the camera.

Below is a table with the respective IK levels and the corresponding impact resistance.
